Linux reviews applications open source from SUSE Mandrake Mandriva Centos Redhat Debian and more
For gaming there is XP
For everything else there is Linux
WHY LINUX IS BETTER

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 7 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 7 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation
Linux Mint 7 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

linux is more faster than WINDOWS
but windows it more compatible than linux
Applications are almost always made to run on windows, so compatibility wise windows is better, but at the same time Vista sucks big time, its slow and takes up alot of space and RAM. I would suggest XP or wait till windows 7 is out. Linux is awesome but a little complicated to use and most applications wont run optimally
Stay away from vista!
It doesn’t compare. Horses for courses. How do you compare a Sherman tank with with a FordT. (Windows Vista is the FordT) and by the way, Vista is c**p. Better go to XP.
I agree with Peter and Clutch.
But Peter, it is just "faster" not "more faster" (Grammar is good, it helps with communication) Sorry! I know some people don’t give a stuff.
My comparison for the two operating systems:
LINUX:
Pros:
1. It’s FREE/ open-source.
2. Less system crashes.
3. Can operate faster.
4. Updates regularly.
5. No viruses/ spywares.
Cons:
1. It’s not easy to get used to Linux in an instant.
2. More complicated.
WINDOWS:
Pros:
1. Easy to use.
2. Easy configuration.
Cons:
1. Hacker-friendly. (Vulnerable to viruses)
2. More system crashes.
3. Offers charged and slow services/ support.
Linux is more stable and secure then Windows, and it allows you ability to fully customize your experience. The only advantage that Windows has over Linux is their market dominance which forces most commercial developers to make Windows versions of software and neglect other platforms (like Mac OS X and Linux). That is changing as some big weights like IBM now make 99% of all their software fully compatible with Linux, but it will be a while before commercial games are common place on the various Linux distributions.
This site will answer all those questions for you.

It shows all the "pros and cons" of Linux compared to Windows
My gut answer:
Speed: Linux, though Windows 7 and Snow Leopard (I think) are on par.
Hardware recognition/compatibility: Windows (Vista SP1, damnit)
Gaming: Windows
Compiling/Heavy-processing: tie
Quantity/Quality of software: Windows
UI customization: Linux (through Beryl)
Video/Photo editing: Windows/Mac
Security: Linux, Mac
Contemporary Linux OS has all the standard software and whatnot for everyday use, like Word Pro, browsers, music players, chatting clients. That is why if you had to choose between Linux/Windows, go with Linux, because why pay $100 for Windows when Linux can do just the same?
Then again, Windows is more convenient b/c of the sheer # and proprietary software…
It actually depends on your software requirements. What you actually need and don’t need. They really can’t be compared because they do different things in different ways. If you are a gamer, then Linux is not for you, however Linux does offer a lot of games itself, but not the ones you would play using Windows, with the exception of about five games.
Linux is fairly safe, secure, stable and reliable 24/7. You normally do not have to try and find out what is causing problems with your operating system, nor do you have to constantly reload and reinstall the operating system. Windows has the advantage, only because vendors make programs and software specifically for it and it is the CASH COW market operating system. The only problem with Linux is they spend more time maintaining the operating system and files, and less time developing and writing software, this is one strength of the MAC computer, they write their own software that is specifically written to work with the hardware they install in their computers.
