How do you uninstall Skype from Linux Debian?

   Did you install it through the Add/Remove feature or did you download it? Either way, go into the Synaptic Package Manager, and serach Skype. Then mark all of the files related to the Skype program for removal, and click apply. Then it will remove all the Skype files and Skype will be gone!

   I’d use apt-get in the terminal or Synaptic.

   To make sure you spell the package name correctly, type ‘sky’ and hit tab twice to list all possible commands with this root. On mine, it says ‘skype’

   so do this:

   sudo apt-get remove –purge skype

   (it’s exactly the opposite of sudo apt-get install skype)

   or…
   gksu synaptic
   (search skype and check the box to remove)

   If you can find it in synaptic package manager if you use that, but the ‘add/remove’ dialogue only covers applications in there. Skype doesn’t show up there on my system.

   to find the files, and generate a list of files on your desktop, you can use the command ‘locate’

   locate skype

   to make a text file ‘skype.txt’ then cd /Desktop and type this in the terminal (or cut and paste)

   locate skype>skype.txt | gedit skype.txt &

   >skype.txt means redirect to a text file the next part means take skype.txt and open it in gedit ( & means send it to background to free up your terminal again)

   If you just want to ‘clean up’ your installation, you’ll see a hidden folder /home/user/.Skype (don’t forget capital S)

   you can delete that folder and try it again if it’s just messed up.
