What is the best way to run windows applications on ubuntu, without double-booting?

The expensive way is to get VMWare or VirtualBox, or the equivalent. Most Windows programs, though, believe it or not run on Wine, which is sort of a Windows Emulator. Some games and other programs which don’t run on Wine will run on a commercial version called Cedega. For information on Wine open up a terminal and type "man wine". A virtual machine might be your best bet; though I’m afraid I’m not terribly aquinted with what’s on offer on the penguin side of the track. Good luck.
