How do I spoof a mac address for Linux Mandriva?

I’m trying to bypass my dormitory’s Internet time restrictions because of my schedule. The Ethernet connection goes down every night at 10:30. However, prefects in my dorm have unrestricted access. I heard that mac spoofing would work but I have no idea how to do it. Any suggestions?
I have a very vague understanding of computers and Internet. Thanks

Sounds like you want this to be temporary, so in a command line type:
ifdown eth0
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:80:FF:FF:98:F5
ifup eth0
Pretty easy. You may need root password for mandrive, not sure. It will restore back to your correct mac address on reboot
