I have Ubuntu, the older version, and I can’t seem to get the audio driver to work properly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You may need to open Synaptic, the package management program and install Ubuntu Restricted. In general restricted programs can not be automatically installed, but the files are included so the user can install them. This is one thing I don’t see anyone answer in Linux questions. It may help, but only a Guess, since many drivers are affected by this one fact.

You indicate you are working with an older release of Ubuntu. The following releases are no longer supported
Ubuntu 6.10
Ubuntu 7.04
Ubuntu 7.10
Currently supported
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
Ubuntu 8.10
Ubuntu 9.04
If you are working with any of the unsupported releases I thoroughly recommend upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04
