You should be able to connect directly to the router as long as you have a wire or wifi adapter going to the router and not the computer.
The Vista to XBOX usage is mainly for Media Center sharing protocol so you can stream Vista music to the XBOX.
Try connecting the XBOX wire directly to the router and not the computer or use a wifi connection with your password and see if you receive an internet connection.
I have the same problem. I have my pc connected wireless to my router. internet is fine & up and running, I’m using it now.
I plug my Xbox360 into my pc with the Ethernet cable and set up the connection. Linux(mint9) is now telling me that I’m connected to the wired network “Auto Ethernet”. I have both the IVP4 Settings to “shared to other computers” but when I test my Xbox connection it wont even seem to connect to my computer. Anyone got any ideas??
