How do i connect to/ configure my wireless router using debian linux?
I used the net inst cd. I can install it again no problem, and change all the settings for network, which are proably wrong anyway.
Here are the details:
I can connect to the router using a usb, if there is a way to configure that in debian, that would be very helpful, please note i only have the basics of debian just now – command line…
Wireless is improbable just now, at least until i get connected using the usb. The answer which succeeds will get the top rating (in order of when posted if more than one) 🙂
This is irrelevant because connection to all wireless routers are generally the same, but it is a SpeedTouch 780WL, i have disabled encryption (so i can connect to it with debian)…

1.) Connect the router using the ethernet cable.
2.) Boot your system ( in this order you won’t need to manually refresh IP setting for ethernet card)
3.) Open the command console and type "ifconfig" .
look for the gateway ip address.
4.) Open your internet browser and type in ip address (ex. http://192.168.1.254 )
btw. this example shows default setting for your router – if necessary, you can reset your router to factory defaults by keeping the reset button pressed for 10 seconds.
the manual for your router is here: http://www.gradwell.com/voip/datasheets/780wl_userguide.pdf
5.) Login to your router and set it up ….
If you need more details, consult userguide, it is very well explained there.
