You can
1) Buy CD online or from a local computer store if they have them.
2) Download them directly from the website and burn a bootable CD yourself.

3) Linux Ubuntu CDs ship for free all over the world. You can request a free Ubuntu CD which will be delivered to your home. If you live in India, it will take 15 to 20 days.
Request here: (You will have to create an account first)

It is up to you, but either down loading it or buying a CD with it on are both very doable.
A Linux CD can actually be multiple CDs and sometimes it is just easier to buy as opposed to getting the ISO image on the CD. All you have to do is goggle the Linux variety you want and it will be easy to find places to buy it or download it.
up 2 u. they are mostly free. you can buy a cd like SUSE linux if you want the tech support and box it comes with, if thats your thing, or the free equivalent to it is opensuse.
Most popular distro is ubuntu, which can be downloaded and burned to a cd then booted and installed, or you can use wubi and install the whole thing from windows. Alternately you can order a cd from them if you dont want to download it and they will post it to you. The cd-in-the-mail is the same thing you would download, just in a physical form rather than obtained through the net.
Other popular distros include mint, pclinuxos, gos, and fedora.
Theres a great article here on choosing a distro

You can download all kinds and versions of Linux from the Internet if you know how to burn an .ISO file, which most cd/dvd recording programs can do. If You want to try it first, make sure you download a Linux LiveCD which allows you to try it out or test it to see if you want to install it.
I have about 150 Linux CD’s downloaded. Can’t say any one is perfect, they are has something different. I also have five different Linux Programs that I actually paid for (Commercial)
