How can I get Linux OS on my Windows/Vista computer?

I have a newer computer with Vista. One HD is already partitioned into 2 drives and I have another separate HD as well–all formatted Windows. What’s the easiest way to setup one of the drives with a Linux or Linux-emulating OS? Thx

LiveCDs are for testing whether a particular flavour (or to be precise a’ ‘distribution’) of Linux fits your needs. LiveCDs are inherently much slower than when installed on hard disk due to the slowness of CD drives compared to HD.
The easiest way to install Linux is to get some of the user-friendly distributions like Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Fedora, plug a CD into the drive, reboot, click a few times and that’s it.
Most of the mentioned distributions have on-line instructions on how to install – with screenshots etc.
i would suggest you use a linux live cd. its basically a whole linux distro on a cd which you can boot from and there is no need to install linux you can do everything straight from the cd. you can request a free cd of linux to be sent in the mail to you here: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/login
The above works. I downloaded one called knoppix, though I’m not happy with the way it runs from my cd drive, kinda slow. But this is probably the easiest thing to do.
If you want something more permanent, you could do a dual boot. I’m not an expert on that but theres lots of info elsewhere online. I’ll post a link that looks like a good starting place.

Hope that was helpful.
