How can I download onto Linux OS a Microsoft program?

I am trying to download the free client software (version 5) at playchess.com but cannot open on my eee laptop that runs linux. I have also downloaded the WINE program as I was told this would open all windows based downloads, but I cannot even open that! i must be doing much wrong, any specific east to interpret answers would be appreciated.

Ok good you already have WINE.
Once you download the client software, right-click on the installer program and select "Open with Wine". This should allow it to install.
I am pretty sure that Linux already has chess for it that your can easily download.
You were misinformed. WINE will not open ALL windows downloads. Here is a database of the programs that will run under wine. There is a wide variety of success under wine.

Temper your expectations. Linux ain’t Windows and WINE doesn’t run all Windows apps. If you are still stuck in Windows, use Windows.
