OpenOffice or Libre Office (whatever it’s called) is already installed.
Also, Ubuntu 10.10 hasn’t been officially released yet.
The easiest way to install any program in Linux is through the repository. I haven’t used Ubuntu in a long time so I can’t remember where it is but in Fedora its under system -> Administration -> add or remove programs. I would expect it some place similar.
