Have VM start instead of desktop in linux?

I have Mandriva 2010 Linux. I also have virtual box. I’d like to know if there is a method I could use to have this virtual box start upon login, without running all of the other standard startup programs. I’m willing to modify this linux installation in any way necessary to make this work.

I have never heard of any way of doing that.
One of the main reason for using a VM is people do NOT want to select the OS at boot time and have to reboot to get to the other OS. With VM you can switch OSes back and forth with out rebooting.
You should consider setting up a dual boot system and then you can select which OS to run when booting up.
Good luck
