Have 6 MB left on Knoppix disk; How can I install Linux programs onto an external hard drive?

I installed Knoppix- a portable version of Linux- which is 694 MB onto a 700 MB disk. Can Linux Applications be installed onto an external drive to be run from Knoppix?

I reckon your best approach would be to install Knoppix to a Pen Drive. That way you would have the advantage of saving your settings between each session as well http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-knoppix-510/
