Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets question?
Remember when the Golden Trio went to Sir Nicholas’ deathday party and there was a table full of strong-smelling moldy food? And there was this ghost that kept passing through it trying to imagine tasting it?
Well, later in the book, Nick was petrified by the basilisk, and then they had to make Mandrake draught to cure all the petrified victims. Since ghosts can’t eat or drink, how did they cure Nearly Headless Nick?

well ghosts cant die and they have no form so a ghost cant be petrifyed forever. OR you just caught J.K.R slip up.
hope this helped ya, Skiing Cr4zy ^_^
This is a good question! I believe ghosts Can eat and drink, however they cannot taste it.
If I am wrong then they probably made a special one for him. Also remember it is a book, not everything is explained well. I like to do that too, figure things out that isn’t explained.
My theory is when he was petrified, he was solid or as close as it gets. When he’s solid he can eat and drink and stuff. They fed it to him. It must really suck. He wanted so bad to eat again, and he gets to, but he doesn’t know it because hewas petrified!
I really think you caught a Harry Potter boo-boo though. I never though about it.
Maybe they made the mandrake potion into a spray and sprayed it on him…
That’s very observant of you! Now I’m going to be thinking of that all night!
Nick was a bit solid when he was petrified, because Ernie M(a)cMillan wafted him to the hospital wing with a fan. So maybe Madame Pomfrey just poured the drought down his throat.
Maybe they just passed Nick through the drought with the fan and it somehow revived him.
Why don’t you send your question in to MuggleCast.com (the podcast the MuggleNet.com does.) They’ll love it!
I assumed they rubbed it on him, i would think being petrified would have made him somewhat solid.
Don’t they just make the mandrake scream to wake them up? or is that just for unconscious people? Because if all they had to do was scream, then the ghost wouldn’t have to eat anything. Plus, nobody can eat when they’re petrified.
Magic!
Good question though.
