Gentoo vs Debian linux?

Could you give me a brief summary of the pros and cons of both Debian and Gentoo Linux and what would be you recommendations. I don’t just want it for general computer use, I am a more serious computer user.

The major difference is that Gentoo is a "from scratch" operating system, you choose what you want in it, build it yourself, and it requires intricate knowledge about your hardware. Nigh impossible to set up if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Debian is a lot easier to use distro, you just install it and then add or remove things you need or don’t need, but you don’t have as much control over some of the core elements.
Here are some reviews. Gentoo is not for the beginner. It requires a lot of linux knowledge to get it installed.
