FFmpeg stopped working ( linux users only please)?
I’m on acer netbook linux (Fedora 8). I tried to install the xvid codec and xine media player from rpm packages. I might have deleted libxvidcore.so.4 after it said there was a conflict. Now ffmpeg isn’t working. It says :error while loading shared libraries: libxvidcore.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Please help with exact instructions and codes. I actually found this file in another directory so I’m not sure if it got deleted or not. Any links or rpm packages with this file in it would help.
Please don’t answer if you have no idea about linux. Some people try to get cute on here, but I need real answers today because I wanted to grab some songs from youtube and make a birthday cd by converting them to mp3 in ffmpeg. My dad’s B-day is tomm. so please hurry.
Just tried this same error message. Thanks anyway.

I would reinstall the xvidcore rpm using your package manager. It should make things work.
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/updates/9/i386/xvidcore-1.1.3-4.fc9.i386.rpm
I hope your dad will enjoy your present.
su
yum remove ffmpeg
yum install ffmpeg
try that out. good old uninstall reinstall.
whenever you can use the yum package manager because with rpm’s you don’t get dependencies and have to do all that on the side, which if your gonna go through that trouble you might as well compile it from source.
but by using yum it handled dependencies for you for the most part.
i’m more of a debian guy myself so…i’m not an expert when it comes to red hat or its derivatives.
but i believe fedora has a forum where obviously fedora users will be able to help you out.
Hi, I agree with the uninstall – reinstall. Have found this web page that will prove useful.

I use Mandriva, so slight difference. Update your repositories to avoid conflict.
Hope this helps mate, good luck an hope you enjoy the birthday party.
