Fedora or RedHat Linux for a Desktop?
I’m considering jumping into the Linux scene again. I want something fast and flexible, but also easy to use. The two that someone reccomended are Fedora and RedHat Enterprise Linux Desktop.
I want something that’ll run games under WINE very well, and I want package management to be fast and easy.
Apparently Fedora and RedHat are very alike, but which one is faster and better for a desktop environment. I will be doing casual browsing and listening to music, alongside playing games under WINE.
Which one will be the fastest and most productive?
Thank you.
Scratch that, how about SlackWare?

If you want to choose between Fedora or RedHat, then go for fedora. Redhat used more for servers and mainframes.
Ubuntu is a lot better. I’m not sure about the others playing WINE very well or not but I did play Diablo 2 using WINE in Ubuntu and it wasn’t very good at all, but yet again my graphic card sucks and I have only a gig of memory.
Mint LXDE is what I would reccomend.
Bohdi is also a nice up and comming ubuntu derivative with the newly stable enlightenment desktop environment
The is more newbie-centered documentation out there for Ubuntu and Ubuntu derivatives than for Red-hat and red-hat derivatives.
I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 9 LTS which is built upon Ubuntu 10.04 LTS its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

Once you have installed Linux Mint 9 LTS you can bring it up to date with easy tweaks like upgrading the Kernel to 2.6.38 and installing Firefox 4

Actually I would recommend Linux mint 9 as it is a long term distro and my wife uses it as her main system. My home is pretty much M$ free aside from an ancient laptop that runs windoze 3.1 as a joke machine!
