well. Linux is free, windows isn’t (except the latest release candidate). The majority of the software is completely free (sure you can buy commercial linux applications). I can literally edit any part of the graphical interface (from the boot loader to the desktop). I can run without a graphical interface at all. The command line is so much more robust making running without a graphical interface a possibility (not much to do at the windows command prompt). SSH (remote command line) not to mention any version of VNC I want for a remote GUI. Security, period.
All you MS fans can claim security is only an issue because of market share. I say kiss my butt. Why are there more exploits for IIS than Apache? An attack to apache on a windows machine will do far more damage than a linux machine. If you hack into an apache server on a linux machine you are the apache user, not local system (an administrator). My opinion is ditch Microsoft for something free that works way better and the games and software will have to follow.
