Does anyone here know anything at all about Java/Linux?
Does anyone here know anything at all about Java/Linux?? I need Java but I’m thoroughly confused what version to download for my 10.04 Ubuntu OS (says "You are using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS – the Lucid Lynx")… Do I do Linux RPM (self-extracting file), Linux (self-extracting file), Linux x64, OR OR Linux x64 RPM???
I’m so used to a Windows OS, that I’m confused here… I know jack squat about Linux, but I’m having to temp. use it for a bit….. Any help here would be greatly appreciated

in a consol, type:
sudo apt-get install java-common
then press enter and enter your password, wait and it will do it for you.
In terminal you can use the command – sudo apt-get install java-common
Or you can use Synaptic Package Manager (found in Administration) for a nice GUI and use the search to find Java-Common and anythingelse you need that is Java related.
Go to the Ubuntu Software Center and search for Java. From the search result, install your desired java application.
RPM is a file format for Fedora, not for Ubuntu. If you want to install RPM in ubuntu then you need another software called Alien.
x64 is the 64 bit version. If your OS is 64 bit then you can use that version.
I would suggest you to consult ubuntu related problems in Ubuntu forum.
