Do you prefer Linux or Microsoft Windows?
I’m bored and so I figured I’d just ask :p I currently run Ubuntu (linux) but I’m thinking about going back to microsoft/windows just cos it’s easier in terms of school installations and so on (the programs we use don’t run on ubuntu computers). So what operative system do you prefer, and if you want to, why? also, if you could put gender and age, just to see who uses what OS :p (I’m a 20 year old girl/woman/female)

I prefer GNU/Linux my favorite distros being Linux Mint, PCLinuxOS, and openSUSE (not in any specific order).
20 year old male.
I dual boot most of my computers as I am in school as well and software manufactures insist on releasing software that will only run on that as may friend says "dangerous operating system", he only runs Windows in a VM for fear it might damage his hardware.
I personally like Linux because almost all the software I require is already installed, and what is not, is easily acquired. It’s very stable and only crashes on me when I do something wrong as opposed to when it feels like it. It’s GPL so I do not need to worry about license keys (usually). It boots twice as quick and executes programs almost four times faster.
Windows is not more "compatible" than linux, software developers choose to write code for Windows only. There are actually some Windows applications what will not run in Windows Vista, but will run fine in WINE in linux.
So yes, I prefer Linux over Windows, but when forced to run windows, DUAL BOOT. 20 gigs is more than enough for a linux partition, and it can read all your music, videos, and other files. That’s what I do and it works great for me. I hope this can help you with your current situation. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
A better solution if you are happy with Ubuntu would be to grab a copy of XP and install it on a virtual machine. I thoroughly recommend VirtualBox which is easy to use and incredibly versatile
VirtualBox can be installed using the Ubuntu Software Center

XP performance on a virtual machine is quite acceptable based on allocating 1gb RAM and 128mb Graphics
Install VirtualBox Guest Additions as well which wll give you additional features
