Computer freezes up?
I have a Compaq that has been acting up lately. I had Windows XP Home Ed. installed on it. I was having problems because windows would not even load up. I attempted to perform full recovery on the hard drive. But it would freeze on the process. I assumed it must have been a windows, so I decided wipe everything and install Linux Mandrake on that machine. The computer still freezes during the linux intallation process. What could be causing this?

After reading your information it sounds to me that the problem is DEFINATLY hardware related.
Possible cause is "FAILING HARD DRIVE."
I would replace the hard drive and install Window XP again and see what happens. Chances are it will not lock up any more.
If it does lock up still, I would suggest replacing the memory in your computer. Perhaps you have defective memory, or even possible, a problem with your system board or processor. But CHANCES ARE, its YOUR HARD DRIVE.
It could be a few things. It might be your RAM or Hard Drive…maybe even the motherboard. Try running tests. MemTest86 is very good for testing RAM.
Its probly the hard drive or you need more ram i agree with the guy with 11 years experince
Sounds like BAD HARDWARE to me… sorry.
could be due to u using 3rd party RAM or a re-conditioned faulty hard drive.
if this new toy is still under parts exchange warranty, please take immediate action to report ur problem now.
🙂
possible causes are as follows:-
first check ur hdd cable if it is damaged replace a newer one, check the jumper settings if it is alright the u have to check ur ram faulty ram causes freezing problem if the ram is alright check for the motherboard condensers are they swollen if they are swollen then got to a electronics shop and replace it if the condensers are allright the finally check ur main supply by replacing a new one
Well there is only ONE answer for you:
1.Download Hiren Boot CD 8.0 or 8.1 . After u download it burn it into a BLANK CD . Put CD in Optical Drive and RUN all TEST from the CD . There is 100% chance to find out what is WRONG.
