I went to add/remove programs and did not see Aska sound drivers…

I think you are looking for alsa sound drivers. Try alsa.
Ubuntu does not routinely use rpm for package management (installing programs) but apt, or aptitude, or synaptic if you want a gui way to do it.
rpm is a command line method to install packages, if you want to learn how to install packages through the command line type man aptitude in a terminal and you will get the manual for aptitude.

This is related to your sound card issue isn't it?
Go to the terminal and type this in:
sudo apt-get update
Perhaps updating Ubuntu will resolve your problem.
If the problem still exist then you will need to take it to the Ubuntu Forums, they maybe able to help you.
