I want to know and also if I can use the yellow dog cd (the one meant for ps3) to shrink the partition size of the vista partition on my laptop. I plan on buying some laptop at walmart with vista on it and putting yellow dog on it for fun and also to try it out before committing to the ps3 to use it on too.

No, YellowDog Linux is for a type of processor that will not be in your laptop.
But, you can easily download a distribution for PCs and laptops and burn it to CD or DVD to install it on your laptop. You can even go to a bookstore and by a book with DVD of Linux.
YellowDog is based on RedHat linux so you may want to check out RedHat Fedora Core 6. Another popular distribution is Ubuntu. I use SuSE myself.
