I know that you can put Linux (Ubuntu to be exact) onto an External HDD. I’m wondering if it’s at all possible to put it on a thumb drive? I have a 2gig one, and as I understand it, ubuntu is only 700mb. Can I do it?

yes, go to ubuntu forums, you’ll recieve lots of help there
You can make an Ubuntu live USB, but to actually install Ubuntu to the drive you need at least 4 gb
Unetbootin is an easy way to make live usbs
