Can I open a file saved in Open Office Linux OS using Windows OS?

I currently have a Windows Vista computer. I’m thinking of getting a mini laptop with Linux OS because it is cheaper than getting on with XP or Vista. My only concern is I’m afraid I won’t be able to transfer my school work between both computers using Open Office. Does anyone know if this can be done?

Absolutely — I do it daily, using network shares, flash drives, e-mail, you name it. Both Linux and OpenOffice have interoperability as a central goal, and it shows.
OpenOffice is also available as a free download for Windows and Mac.
OpenOffice can also save files in Microsoft Office formats instead of its default OpenDocument format. However, OpenOffice’s support for Microsoft Office formats is not perfect, so it might be best to do this only when the file will need to be opened on a computer without OpenOffice installed.
I do it all the time. It is easier to share file with OO than M$ word and their “improved” docx.
