Booting a linux distro from USB?
Well i recently purchased a 8 gig flash drive and i’ve always wanted to try out other versions linux (i used mandrake but something different would be nice). So whats the best distribution(s) to download and use…and how do i get it to boot from my flash drive (just because its relatively easy to get rid of if i dislike it)?
All i need is some type of word processing and easy to use networking (like xp wireless monitor).
Thanks!

There’s this cool utility called UNetbootin that automatically downloads and installs distributions to flash drives:
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
Currently, the most popular distribution is ubuntu (which is on unetbootin’s list), which works pretty well, and has lots of great features, including network tools and openoffice.
If you had done a search instead of coming to us you would have found:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com
Go there and while it does not recommend one distro it explains why one distro is as good as any other on a flash drive.
Because your USB is 8GB, I suggest you install Ubuntu, I know it is one of the biggest linux distros around but it has open office (very similar to Microsoft Office) inbuilt plus It has the same networking features as XP and Vista.
