Are Canonical attempting to monopolize Linux with Ubuntu. Are they to become another Microsoft?

Linux reviews applications open source from SUSE Mandrake Mandriva Centos Redhat Debian and more
you know that they are,
ubuntu is making it (sort of) easy to change over, comes pre-installed on more than a few pc’s and along with the one laptop per child program they have the biggest user base,
this is good in one way – as it makes people think that there is a real alternative to a paid system
but i believe its taking the heart away from what linux is,
i think people should be given an option, not told to use windows, ubuntu, mint, etc
people should help – not dictate,
its all over yahoo forums – if its linux then its ubuntu or mint – why not debian
why do people assume that its sudo apt-get on some questions about linux ? – because people have only heard about ubuntu
we need more advertising of the other linux distro’s, mandriva for instance,
whats wrong with mandriva ?
i’ve only seen one other person on here with mandriva – and if i remember correctly, he was told/advised to use ubuntu
its not mainly canonical – its the people who don’t know any different as well
I think end users need some sort of a brand name associated with an OS. If linux needs to be picked up on desktops, then you need someone like Canonical to come forward. Anyway worldwide Linux usage on computers is still below 2 percent compared to 45 percent users that still use windowsXP
http://www.google/linux.com get ur correct answer
Monopolize, no, but they are making Ubuntu "the face of Linux."
Unlike Microsoft, Canonical Ltd. is not charging for their OS nor are they bribing schools to use their product (MSDNAA).
Remember, "Get ’em while they’re young."
