My instructor has an program that lets you turn six screens into a 3D cube? anyone know the name of this application/ utility and ware i could get it?

Compiz Fusion allows a user to turn four desktops (and what is usually two "caps" which are just filler images) into a 3D cube. Depending on your flavor of Linux (I find it easy to set up on Ubuntu) and the hardware its running on (you need an active video card with some power to it), configuring Compiz Fusion to do such can be very straightforward.

As mentioned above there is Compiz (formerly Compiz Fusion)
However a far better alternative is the older Beryl software which can be installed on Ubuntu or Linux Mint.
Download Beryl deb. packages

Save to home directory
extract tar.bz2
cd beryl-packages-0.2.1
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

It won’t give you six desktops but it will give you four and performance is far better to that of Compiz.
