I have bought a laptop and the OS is Suse linux 11 enterprise. before I was using Windows. I would like to find a software pack or smth like that that I can dowload some software for example like VLC, bittorrent and other softwares that an average PC user uses which would be compatible on linux. any suggestions? where can I download it from?

Most applications that you would want are already in the SUSE repository; you just have to choose to install them. "Software packs" aren’t very common for Linux because 1. ) they would have to ensure compatibility with all distributions, which is hard, and 2.) they would get old and outdated fairly fast, anyway.
You can download most programs with Linux versions from their websites.
Like VLC
http://www.videolan.org
Vuze for torrent files
http://www.vuze.com
THe best and safest way to install software is to use the suse package manager. The link below explain how to use the package manager.
Good luck
You are now well on your way to learn that the hype about Linux nirvana is just that, hype. You basically bought a really big paper weight. You can browse the Internet, but, otherwise, there’s really not much of practical value you can do with your laptop. Sorry.
Your package management program will install all the software related to the Linux you have. If I remember right Suse uses a program called YUM. Find the software installer, also if I remember correctly Suse can use .rpm files. Look for VLC.rpm in a web search. Hope this helps you some.
