so i just downloaded linux ubuntu (kubunto and xubuntu desktops also) and i stumbled across my old office cds. is there a way i can have my cake and eat it too? can i download office and run it in linux?

Not run, Install in windows and be able to boot into the full os from a cold start..

I will using a server verison of linux.
I want my computer to do certain events at certain times.

For example at noon I want it to use clamav to scan the shared foldor
at 11:55 I want it to do a restart
When it boots up there are certain applications I want it to run.
At 6:00 am I want it to launch a magic packet that will boot up my main computer.

I know the commands on if I am physical at the computer, but I want it to do this while I am away and automatically.

I know if your computer savvy they are all easy, but I’m looking to pop in a cd and go.

There is a lot of stuff in there along with all the temp stuff from mozilla. When I used windows I used IE Privacy keeper for disk cleanup. Is there something similar for Linux? Can anyone tell me if I can swap out Suse Linux 10.2 for another Linux OS? I’m not too happy with the version I have & I want to replace it. I upgraded from Suse Linux 10.1 to 10.2 but it just used up more of my memory which is running critically low. I don’t know how to use the other partition either which has 28 GB’s of memory. It’s me again. I inserted the XP installer cd then restarted the system. On the start-up the screen says, "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD…", but that doesn’t work. i repeated it several times but ubuntu doesn’t seem to respond whenever i am pressing a key to boot from cd. ubuntu is just starting the system without booting.
any help?

ok i been with window for a while know little about other os out there. linux has been recomended by so many as better os, but from what i know about linux is that i would have to download emulator for my computer game and applications. anybody got a tutorial on how to go about installing linux and making it work with my programs?

Which one is better, if all else is equal?

I want a fast version of linux for my 5yr old laptop. I need programming capabilities but I don’t want all the extra applications like firefox. Want to run it in a virtual pc as well. I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed currently and 1GB of RAM so I really need a lightwait version. I have a external HDD if that helps.

If I open doxbox with 600000 cycles, then my 3Ghz Intel Core2Duo cpu usage just jumps upto 100% on both cpu0 and cpu1. If I open system monitor from Gnome, then two processes named doxbox show up each with 43% cpu usage. Other programs run fine. What is the problem?
It is cpu cycles.
