just installed ubuntu on my pc its version 9.4 just gone on to youtube it says i havent a flash player and need to download one im not sure what options to use for adobe as when i press download it gives me the following options
the different versions i can download are
yum for linux
.tar.gz for linux
.rpm for linux
.deb for ubuntu 8.04+

I’m a windows user and I’m considering switching to linux.. But I was thinking about the applications I use on windows, will they easily run on linux? will I need additional software to get them run? will they ‘all’ work? are there some kind of applications that will ‘never’ run on linux?
How about MS office and Adobe Illustrator?

Hi my mother in law has got Linux on her dell and only Linux. And she has asked me to reinstall windows XP back on and take Linux off. But I ran the reinstall disk on the pc but nothing happened.

How can I get rid of Linux so i can reinstall?

Linux running the Gnome desktop and is ditributed by debian if anyone knows what that is!

Just like to add that i have tried just running the installer disc for windows xp but the computor still loads linux everytime.
I have no discs for linux as it was installed directly from the net. and the guy who put it on the dell, insisted it was better than windows (he was a linux programmer and my mother in law is not and struggles to do anything on the system.

I am in the process of building a website. Unlike my other sites I wan’t to use a cms this time. In your opinion what do you think is the best cms. I have tried joomla and drupal and wordpress. Joomla seemed sluggish and the admin panel wasn’t very good. Drupal worked great until I tried to convert my html theme to it. Wordpress worked great! Really liked it but it is just to much of a blogging system. I wan’t a website. I also tried surreal cms it was the best so far all I had to do was ad class="editable" to the divs and spans that I wanted to edit. The problem with it is the actual admin panel is hosted on their site. Is there anything like this that I can host on my own server. It would need to be PHP I am a linux dedicated server. I have no ASP support and I refuse to install the apache mods. Thank-You!

I have been looking at different Linux/open source distributions and i have narrowed down my options to either Debian or Open Solaris. Can you give me a comparison of the 2 and what would your choice be for programming/editing/playing around with the OS.

I use Mandriva Linux, and I have a few movies downloaded but when I go to use Kaffeine to play them i only have sound when use VLC it, for some reason automatically closes. Please help I can’t watch movies I hate it.

I like Linux because it looks cool and offers better security. On the other hand, I dislike Linux because there are so many versions, packages, kernel, etc. Moreover, they are not compatiable among them. It is not a user friendly OS. It is also very frustrating just to install or update a simple program to work.

i have installed open suse linux as a second O.S along with windows on another partishion. when i try to use this application it runs incredibly slow. now alloting 40GB for each system, the windows apps run much faster.is it because of being installed beside windows? i have tested the dsl line speed on both O.S’s using speakeasy speed test and they both register closely to one another- so why is the linux so slow?

hi actually i want to know where the applications get installed on linux. like in windows..its in C:\Program files\…. but what abt in linux. like i m installing Mplayer or anything..where does it get installed? what is the proper way of uninstalling it? please help.

I tried Mandrake years ago which promised an easy dual boot. Each time the screen would pop up asking if I wanted to boot to Linux or Windows it did not work. I am using Wireless internet so need a Linux that can see wireless with no problems. Any ideas?
