I never set up a login of any kind before, and this is in the beginning of the installation. I can type in a name, but when it gives me a prompt for the password, I can’t type anything. So I hit enter and it tells me the login is incorrect. Help me, please!

I need an easy-to-use website because I don’t know anything about Linux, really. I would like to download it to install on a spare computer to learn more about it. Instructions would be great, too. Thanks!

and it said that I need a file to compile it
went to website and it was in source code

is there an easier way that has a "GUI" program
to compile source code to .rpm or .deb packages
or a website to do this please dont tell me to use the Terminal
or Konsol

I mean physicist and astronomer, I’ve heard that physicists and astronomers usually use Linux/UNIX, not Microsoft Windows. Is it true? Lots of people say that Linux/UNIX is very difficult to use, I’ve tried Ubuntu Linux and found it’s really hard to use.

i think ubuntu is a larger os and puppy linux is quite small but what are the differences, advantages/disadvantages of each one?

I know one exists but that simple anti-virus software is built into most Debian-based systems but where would I be able to find a virus that will work on Debian etch 4.0? Probably pre-compiled or in a deb package for easy installation/use. The reason I want to do this is not to send a virus to a friend. It is so that I can test the security on a recent Linux project, codename: whiite. This is a distribution of Linux for the wii. It runs from the SD card on a secondary ext3 file-system that’s triggered from a boot.elf homebrew file on the primary fat partition. Both the partitions are on a special SD card that has been made for this purpose. It can run deb and other packages including pre-compiled applications. as long as they just use the terminal because a GUI such as KDE hasn’t been added yet although they’re currently working on X implementation. Also, what would be the after-effects of such a virus? I was just wondering even though I’m still going to try it myself anyways. I know it’s dangerous but whiite doesn’t actually effect the wii’s NAND memory because it’s run directly from the SD card. Yes it is based on wii code (it has to be in order for it to run on the wii), but it won’t do any permanent damage, at least I hope not.

Other than using the ‘top’ command, How can i find how much of processor and RAM utilisation is happening? Coz I dont trust the RAM usage report by the ‘top’ command. Seems to be wrong.
