Does anyone out there use Linux / unix and what problems do you have communicating with people using mac/PC, crossover applications like the unix equivalent of MS Word, Excel, etc.
Does it make sense to switch to Linux / Unix for a computer dunderhead like me?

What file system should I use for an external HDD used for both Linux and OS X?
I have a Mac (OS X 10.4.7) and an Ubuntu PC (6.06). What file system should I use for a shared 300GB ext hdd? I’ve read that OS X has no (first or third party) support for NTFS, and read only support for ext2 and no support for ext3. Meanwhile Ubuntu has no support for HFS+.
The disk I want to format is 300GB. Is that too big for FAT32? If so, how do I format it as such?
I’m open to any solutions, no matter how messy.
I’m trying to run an emulator, but I can’t figure out how to install the linux version and the Windows version is, of course, only for windows. So, any solutions? [Preferably one that does not involve paying god-knows-how-much for Vista/XP]
any experience? if I read like 1-2 hours a day how long will it take to completely understand it?
So I’m thinking of switching to Open Source, and I’m wondering which of the following are reccomended:
Open Source OS (if Linux, what distro?)
OS Office Suite (currently liking Open Office)
OS Antivirus
OS Image manipulation (like photoshop)
etc.
I’m an experienced user who does lots of web developing/design/stuff.
Let me know your opinion.
Hello I need the main functions & features of the operating system Linux (Mandrake), could you provide a least with a small explanation for each feature or function you list thank you for your time.
I just recently was forced to switch to Debian linux, and I have no experience with it at all, I can find nothing telling how to install ..any programs… Can anyone step by step exactly in excruciating detail tell me how to install… say… (example) firefox? I cannot get anything installed..:(
