i want to buy a pc to act as a server , and i want it to be dell original , and the server software will be on LINUX , so i was wondering what is the best desktop pc model for dell to do this ?

I’m trying to bypass my dormitory’s Internet time restrictions because of my schedule. The Ethernet connection goes down every night at 10:30. However, prefects in my dorm have unrestricted access. I heard that mac spoofing would work but I have no idea how to do it. Any suggestions?

i have already formatted(NTFS) my hard disk for the installation of xp, iam using a windows xp before i installed the redhat linux then i decided to re install back windows xp

after installing windows and i run it for the first time it hangs even in safe mode
i have a P4@2GHz, 256MB RAM, 64MB Vcard and a 40 Gig HD

I just want to know why everyone thinks Linux is so much better… I would perferably have two different view points on it; one of a Linux liker, and another from a Microsoft liker.

i had buy a new pc (intel g31 chipset ) i want to tun as ftp server as per my requirement vsftp is not suitable for me. proftpd is the best for me. but latest verions of linux does not support for proftpd. if iam using mandriva 2009 linux where the proftpd.rpm available for me. plz help

I downloaded Debian Linux from the official Debian site and then I burned it on a cd as image file (iso) but when I boot my computer it wont work :s

I already use windows.

By the way, when I boot, it says:

"Boot failed (linux something whatever error), sorry"

"Press any key to try again"

How can I fix this problem?! :S

Many people seem to dislike the Suse distribution and I was wondering why? Is there anything fundamentally wrong with it? Is it considered to "pedestrian" for the needs of most Linux users?

Currently running a Linux server but few understand it to maintain it. Would we be better converting to a Microsoft server?
For context we are a small to medium Charitable company based in the UK, running about 50 workstations off the server deploying both PC’s in the general office and MACs in the Creative office.

Because we are registered as a Charity we can obtain Microsoft software are approx 20% of retail price through the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

Preferably XP, but I think answers for people out there running OS X and popular distros of Linux would help too.

Is it possible to put applications and an OS together on the same flash drive and run the OS from the Drive and still be able to access the applications/files.

I wish to access my business mails (actually on the exchange server) remotely – at home or somewhere else. Due to the fact that i’m not able to configure VPN on the actual server, I am thinking of replacing the exchange server with a linux based solution.

Is it worth to do so please?
