I have Ubuntu 6.06 and I’m trying to download Flash Adobe for Linux so I can watch videos. Unfortunately, I am not much of an expert with computers. When I am about to download, it gives me 3 versions of Flash to download. They are:
.tar.gz for Linux
.rpm for Linux
YUM for Linux
Also, once I download, I come to somethihow to use it, there is one folder, another folder in that, and then 2 more seperate folders. Out of those 2 folders, there is one folder in each. One says Flash plug-in, and the other one says doc.
Inside the Flash Plugin, there are 5 more new things, although they aren’t folders anymore. They are set up, READ ME, License, LibFlashplayer.so, and homecleanup.
I have no idea what any of the above is. If anyone could give me step by step instructions, even if it is extremely obvious, I would appreciate it.
Btw, I also only have 99% disc space. If that is a problem, I’ll start deleting as much as I can.
Thanks!

I’m new to the Linux world, and chose to go with the SUSE Linux distribution. I recently upgraded from SUSE Linux 10.0 to version 10.2. While I can see my Linksys router, I don’t seem to be able to connect to the Internet.
On a Windows XP PC, a person would have to "obtain an IP address automatically". I think that it should be the same on my SUSE Linux OS, but do not know how to enable that feature.

I have just installed Debian (An hour or so ago…) And cannot access the GUI. I have tried startx, init 2, and init 3 in root and my other account. I am a beginner at Linux, and I know that there are much easier distributions. But, can anybody help?

I understand that I cannot dual boot a japanese and an english version of windows XP, because it will affect the system’s programming. So, now I’m thinking of dual booting an English version of Windows Xp and a Japanese version of Linux. Will there be any problem if I do so? I mean, will the Japanese version of Linux affect my Windows Xp if I dual boot?

I’m planning on buying a new computer for my video editing production skills and I want to know if anyone is familiar with various patented computer brands such as Apple Machintosh, Microsoft Windows, Linux or any others that may be much more suited for video editing and broadcast preparation? I’m open to learning on other systems. I started off working on Apple Mac computers, then I started working on Microsoft Windows as the years went on; mostly, but I’m not sure if I’m missing something more suited for video editing. I want to make a good purchase just for my growing skills in the area of anything video or visual. Of course audio is a concern as well. Please any expert knowledge or someone who has any resources that they can link to me?

Given how widely supported open source OSs such as Linux are, why would you choose to use a NOS that requires high licensing fees?

This will also be my only computer…so does anyone have any other suggestions for a good laptop?
