What is a user friendly Linux OS?

I am looking to switch my computer from running XP to just about anything else. I have heard about good open source apps for linux based PCs. I use my computer for music, word processing, internet and not much else. Could i still use XP on my computer when necessary?

Ideas, anyone?

Thanks!

It has been years…

Yep, that’s about it. When I download the latest, it doesn’t work. I just get mad, then Kefka laugh at it, and then everyone in the same room as me looks at me very strangely. Is Kefka laughing bad??? Anyway, thanks much^^^^:P

I want to create dedicated servers for my friends to play on. I know that Linux is very stable and i would like to know which one is the best for running stable servers for high end PC games.

I try the command: mount -t ext3 /dev/hdb1 /data

I get the error:

Debian 5 (LINUX) or Fedora 11 (LINUX) ?

Which one would you better recommend, Fedora 11 Linux or Debian 5 Linux? I tried Debian Linux for a little bit, but now I am sorta considering going with Fedora 11 Linux? Please do not recommend some other Operating System (LINUX) like Ubuntu, unless you think it is MUCH better than those, but please still list one of those two also. Thank you very much!
Best answer gets 10 points!!!
Thank you Dan but, yeah I am trying to find a answer from somebody who as tried both or knows a Full Answer
Thank you Michael E, I will wait for some more answers before Choosing….
Oh yeah another thing Michael E, can you decide between Fedora and Debian though?
Of Michael, I just re-looked your answer and saw the Fedora, thank you, yeah I kinda forgot you said that after I posted about waiting…
Ok, I have already got both, not a dual boot, I run them both using VMWare Player… But please still give any recommendations on any Linux Distros besides Ubuntu,Debian, and Fedora.

See, I’m getting this notebook a week from now and I’m choosing between the one with Windows and the other one Linux. Do they have differences? What are the advantages and disadvantages of choosing one of the two?

What linux distro do you think I should use?

I want one that is really good for multimedia, and already has Windoes Media codecs, and plays flash and java out of the box. And it needs to be able to use .rpm packages because I am terrible at installing .deb and .tat.gz packages. I have debian right now and I hate it. Thanks.

I will want the 2 OS to comunicate over my network.

I have searched and tried many ways of getting it done. I’ve searched forums. I still can’t get it to work.
I think I solved it somehow. I still do not get how I did it. Youtube works on mozilla. Maybe it’s because I moved the files into the mozilla folders "components" and another one.

Maybe I installed gnash or something. I don’t know. However, I have the webpages saved, that could have helped me.

My instructor has an program that lets you turn six screens into a 3D cube? anyone know the name of this application/ utility and ware i could get it?

I have a message that I want to distribute to multiple people, but I only want to make one copy of the same encrypted message. In that case, I want to encrypt the content with a single public key, but each of the recipients has to use his/her unique private key to decrypt.

Is such a single-public-key/multiple-private-keys relationship possible?

I have Ubuntu, the older version, and I can’t seem to get the audio driver to work properly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How are they similar and how are they different?

I am trying to get my WIFI card to work with my laptop. I have Windows drivers for it.

I tried this:

ndiswrapper -i (directory of file of windows driver)

Then I tried:

nisdiwrapper -l

and I get:

neti2220.inf invalid driver!

I need to know what worked for other people. I have spent too many hours trying to get this working. Thanks.
