I have a decent rig, but the partition in which i want to install Mandriva 2009 Spring is no bigger than 6 gigs (it previously had Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex installed) Will that do? Also, i had problems when writing to one of my NTFS partitions from Ubuntu, especially when downloading torrents directly to that partition. Does anyone know the cause for this, or if i might face the same problems with Mandriva?

I am looking for a portable laptop for school, and I do not want windows xp or vista. I really like the specs for the Linux version of the MSI wind, but I cannot find any information on the word processor in it. I got a new modem from Bellsouth and I finally got it working w/ my desktop computer. It won’t work with a laptop that has Linux though. when I try to connect it says that it needs a passphrase. Bellsouth only helps w/ windows and the number she gave me will charge for help. Can anyone help or give me some advice?

i am new for redhat linux.I want to install it on my xp.But i dont know how it is installed .when i inserted my redhat linux cd in the drive it does not show setup files.Then i tried to make a bootable disk from "dosutils" but where it is in linux cd i dont know .So plz help me some one in installing linux on my xp in easiest way.

I’m new to Linux mandriva and i don’t know what codecs to use to get the dvd to play. I’m trying to play the video through the movie player that comes with the operating system, and i keep getting a message saying "cannot read from source" and my dvd is brand new, only used once or twice

The company I work for has built a distribution using the "linux from scratch" route and built it from source. They intend to sell it on for loads of money but refuse to let even us "in-house" linux users from getting the source or modifying it to help us deploy it easier. Is this legal? and if so does that not go against the whole "open source" ethos?
The single application they run on the new OS is a in-house development ported from DOS, but how do they stand on licensing that too?
