As Microsoft begins its slow migration to the integration of open-source software into it’s system, amazing things have happened. Most recently, Microsoft released 20,000 lines of code as a contribution to the linux Kernel which include 3 linux-based device drivers, all in the hopes of enabling Linux/Unix distros to be virtualized into programs such as Hyper-V for cross platform integration.

What is your opinion on this? Do you like it or not, and why?

Is there any reason that one should switch to, or dual-boot with some sort of Linux OS over Windows XP if they already have Windows XP installed? If so what exactly are they?

in RH Linux 9, When im trying to install network drivers using the command "rpm -bb SPEC/tg3.spec" it says "-bb unknown option"

how to make a 3rd partition to be visible by both Linux and windows operating systems???
i have a hard disc of 80 gb on my laptop i made 3 partitions i created the first for my windows XP second for my Linux mandriva and third for my movies and music etc…

i want to make the third partition visible on both operating systems
in terminal on Linux its already visible, when i enter " ls /mount/f " it shows all the files that i was using on my windows, with help of a friend but he doesn’t know how to make visible on the "computer" part in Linux.
i reformatted the third partition from NTFS to FAT32 as i have read in multiple forums but now how do i activate it ?
the partition where windows is installed is C: or sda1, Linux is installed on the D: or sda5 and the partition that i want both operating systems to use is on E: or sda6

if anyone can give me any advise i would be very grateful !

How to set up Shorewall firewall on Mandrake Linux for minimum security?

i have "Fedora-9-i386-DVD" image file, in my laptop dvd rom is not working. is that any possible way to make linux os bootable flash drive or suggest me to do install in some other way.

I have a router that connects 3 computers by a cable, then I have 3 laptops that also connect to the router wireless. I don’t have a central server. The router is Linksys.

There are no windows users in this workgroup.
5 of the computers use Opensuse 11.1, the other computer uses Opensuse 11.0. All of these machines use KDE 4.2

Ubuntu linux is among the most popular desktop operating systems on the planet, yet very feq companies develop applications for it, if you can write a nice flashy instant messanger for windows and mac, why not ubuntu linux? you can’t say it’s standardization standing in the way, Ubuntu (not kubuntu, edubuntu, or xubuntu) has specific software it comes with, anything else is "extra" but certainly available. Yahoo! wrote an instant messanger that is so old it looks like the very first windows version. come on guys! linux can do ANYTHING!
