I just installed linux mint and i tried downloading open office i found 2 versions DEB and RPM which one gonna work with mint linux

I have just installed redhat linux on my system now i want to connect to internet .plz tell me step by step proceedure for it.I have a broadband connection.how to configure my network configuration like in xp?

Just installed Mandriva Linux and everything works great but i do not know how to set up the sound drivers… everything else pretty well set itself up… tried a couple different things in the configuration area but no success yet…

well , i am realtivly new to linux ( ubuntu , knoppix )
im going to be going to college soon , and im wondering what sort of jobs would i look at that could require me to use linux ?
i currently know html and am pretty fluent with html , wordpress and style sheets
im working on learning php , and i know a very little amount of python ( basically nothing)
so i guess what im wondering is how do i further my knowledge from just using the os ( i know some things like using terminal , , gedit , sudo …small stuff like that)
but i want to focus my trainign to a specific job soon , and any studies i can do on my own are only going to help me
the reason i was thinking linux , is mainly beacause linux seems like an os that you can really learn … you can "get your hands dirty" in the actual os
but , if you think i would be able to have a more succesfull career with windows then please say so

and what are some future computer related jobs that are going to be in high demand ?

Ok i need a linux os that i can boot on my computer from my flash drive. I need one that can connect to my dsl on my downstairs comp through a linksys wireless adapter. Ive tried knoppix i couldn't get a signal, i tried unbuntu but it just leaves me at a huge comman prompt with nothing to enter in it. I'm about to try DSL linux. I've only tried these. Oh andi don't know what wireless card i have if any and i have a westell modem and a wireless g router on the one with dsl. Oh and the one running dsl is windows xp

I’m an absolute beginner. I want to be able to keep my site fresh and up to date with articles and images. And i’m assuming wordpress can get the job done. The thing is my site was developed using xhtml and css. How can i integrate WordPress for this site.

hosted under Windows Platform. It support PHP, MySQL but do not support for mod_rewrite Apache module. You might need to transfer to linux Platform.

Now what do i do? What is this mod_rewrite Apache module. What does it do? And whawwt is my next plan? Do i move to a Linux Platform as advised or can i still use WordPress with the Windows platform.

I have Microsoft Windows Xp professinal on my computer and I want to install RedHat Linux. I don't want to miss Windows or any other of my informations. The problem is that GRUB( Linux's default boot loader) can't can't understand that I have Windows Xp on my computer. So if I install Linux on my computer I'll miss Windows. I don't care for the default interface on the PS3, the 360's is much better in my opinion. I am not familiar with Linux at all. I know what it is but have never used it. I am curious to know what advantages or even disadvantages come with installing one of these OS's on my PS3 (60GB)? Does it effect the functionality of the system? Do I lose any features? I am specifically looking at somehow getting Compiz Fusion to run on Vista.

I downloaded VMware as virtual machine and Linux Debian virtual appliance in my vista computer. I went through a long configuration and after that It asked me for my username and i fill in the username that I created from the configuration but when I tried to type in the password it won't let me and i got stuck in the command prompt. I don't know if there's something wrong with my configuration. Please help.
