I am trying to figure out which OS to go for? It seems there is no real difference between Windows and Linux apart from the price. I need to figure out the difference in price between these two systems.

Ive tried tarballs and the executable ones, forgot the name of the extention.
None of them seem to install correctly, i always am missing a dependency or somthing.
What might I be doing wrong? I'm running in root. I just clean installed the OS, shouldn't it come with a method to install software?
Could you walk me through an installation that has worked on your SUSE linux machine?

I really like the Linux email server, but also want the simplicity of a Microsoft web server. If not, any suggestions? Cost is a factor. Its for a small office.

If Linux is open source any one can know where the password are stored and if they are encrypted any one can decrypt it using source code. I am only familiar with paragent.com . its an open source project and works well for our company.

I just recently installed Mandriva Linux and I dont know to much about Linux. I have a Wireless-G broadband router with a wusb54g v4 network adapter connected to the computer with Linux. I cant figure out which driver to use or how to put my own driver in. I downloaded NDisWrapper to install a Windows driver and I burned it to a CD to put in my Linux computer. But i cant even figure out how to view what is on the CD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so I’m pretty decent with computers but a complete newbie when it comes to linux. The situation this guy has in the link below is exactly my problem (even the same laptop) but i dont really understand his solution lol. so if you could kind of dumb it down and explain it to me in a more newbie-friendly way it would be greatly appreciated and of course 10 pts. There are only 3 steps.

I'm going to buy debian (since it's GB's big and I'm on DSL). Are there any sites you've bought linux before and that successfully installed? I don't really want to buy from a site that never ships it to me or the DVD's wont work.

Microsoft has 95% of the desktop market, but many versions of Linux are capable and competitive operating systems. Yet, Linux hasn't caught on with most desktop users. So, with that in mind, why hasn't Linux caught on, and what can be done to help make Linux more widely accepted among ordinary desktop users?
