I am an advanced web-programmer (learned basic C++, very comfortable with OOP, etc) but I have no experience in developing full-fledged standalone applications, especially in Linux.

I am very interested in contributing to the community but not sure how to apply my programming/design knowledge to Linux. What are some good resources to learn/tips?

Thanks!

I want to make my own distribution, targeted at linux newbies making the transition to linux. I would prefer it to be based on debian or ubuntu due to the large amount of software for both, yet something my own. Like a custom boot screen, one centralized task bar, and if it is in any way possible, the last copy of beryl. I would need the iso file.

I have been running Linux for two months and I like it much better then my Windows XP. My computer doesn’t freeze or crash anymore. I don’t have to worry to much about viruses or spyware on my computer. I would think that Microsoft Would be hurting in sales if linux was able to run all PC applications that windows run.

I currently have a Windows Vista computer. I’m thinking of getting a mini laptop with Linux OS because it is cheaper than getting on with XP or Vista. My only concern is I’m afraid I won’t be able to transfer my school work between both computers using Open Office. Does anyone know if this can be done?

I'm unsatisfied with Windows, so I've been looking for a good Linux distro. Mandriva seems good, with good hardware support. Has anyone trying Mandriva Linux 07, particulary the One LiveCD edition? And does it contain Atheros WiFi support like it said?
